What’s your career background?
I have worked in the care sector for about 17 years, working with a vast range of illnesses from residential EMI (elderly mentally infirm) elderly settings, to learning disability supported living mental health and child care.
When I started in the care sector, I worked my way up from a Care Assistant, to a Senior, and then to a Deputy, and finally to a Manager. Whist working in child care, I progressed from an Assistant to a Senior to a one-to-one complex care, special educational needs coordinator.
How long have you worked at Active Pathways for?
I started working at Active Pathways in September 2019 and came into the business as a Unit Manager at our Park Place location in Leeds.
When I joined the business, Park Place was a brand-new location and so it’s been a rocky road setting up a new service, especially with the pandemic. We still have a long way to go but the support I have received from our Managing Director, Assistant Director, Head of Clinical Governance and Business Development Manager has been tremendous. Everyone is so friendly and approachable.
What does a day in the life of a Unit Manager look like?
I do a bit of everyone’s role really, so no day is ever the same!
Park Place is a purpose-built supported living development and so we focus on individuality/individualised support for each of our service users.
What’s been your highlight so far about working at Active Pathways?
My highlight whilst working at Active Pathways has got to be achieving a full service within 7 months! It was an incredible feeling and one I’m really proud of.
Would you recommend working at Active Pathways to a friend?
Definitely, I have already recommended people. I really believe that the best thing about Active Pathways is that we are recovery focused and care about the individual. We thrive on meeting our values: Quality, Safety and Passion, making us one big family that is honest, fun and caring.
