Congratulations to service user Andrew on his new role as kitchen porter. The role is part of a larger ‘therapeutic earnings ‘programme launched by Brookhaven and The Hamptons and facilitated by our Occupational Therapy team.
Eco-therapy is a natural, free and accessible treatment that boosts our mental wellbeing. Whether it’s a horticultural development programme supervised by a therapist or simple walk in the park, being outdoors and being active is proven to benefit our mental health.
Well done to everyone who participated in Team Gro-Mo! So far you have raised £375 and we are still counting.

Our Head of Operations has joined the Panel of a National Project to improve the physical environment for service users.
The Building Research Establishment (BRE) and Design in Mental Health Network (DIMHN) www.dimhn.org are collaborating on a major national initiative to develop recognised quality standards for products used in mental healthcare buildings and construction. The collaboration aims to ensure both safer environments and savings to the taxpayer.
Within the mental healthcare sector as a whole, around 400 deaths a year are attributable to self-harm. There is, however, little guidance and few standards for products used in these settings. The result is an inconsistent approach to assessing fitness for purpose leading to patient harm and deaths.
BRE and DIMHN have agreed to work together by developing definitive standards to allow clinicians and other professionals working within mental health to make informed decisions that help ensure environments are safe, supportive, user-friendly and therapeutic.
